Dear Friends,

Lunar New Year Flower Market

Just when the memories of the year-end holidays and New Year celebrated in the West are fading but while spring is still a vague promise, along comes Lunar New Year. Celebrated in East and Southeast Asia to usher in the spring, it is often celebrated with traditional flowers and plants to augment family gatherings.

So to make this year, the Year of the Tiger, more auspicious – and who doesn't need that nowadays – I hope you will join us in the Botanical Garden on Saturday, February 13th for the 11th Annual Lunar New Year Flower Market.

Since the following day, February 14th, is the actual New Years day, you can purchase spring blooming plants that will be very fresh and auspicious. Don't forget to visit the Garden itself as magnolias and camellias are beginning to burst into bloom. You can do that without getting your shoes muddy because most of the new pathways will be completed ľat last.

I look forward to celebrating the beginning of the Year of the Tiger with you, with flowers, song and dance.

Warm regards,

Michael McKechnie
Executive Director, San Francisco Botanical Garden Society
