Educators from Pacific Primary enjoying a professional development day at the Botanical Garden.

Early on an October Monday morning, forty eager educators and staff from Pacific Primary preschool (PP) crowded into the Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture, jockeying for space among the children's books on display for their perusal. These participants were at the Garden for the first professional development workshop offered exclusively for preschool teachers. A joint production of the Youth Education Program and the library, the workshop was the brainchild of docent Laura Galvin, who taught at PP for many years.

The educators enjoyed a walk in the Garden with Annette Huddle, Director of Youth Education, nature craft activities in the Exhibition Garden with Gretchen Norrell, Children's Garden Educator, and a library orientation designed specifically for them by Lia Thomas, Assistant Librarian. They learned some basic plant science, created their own garden crafts, and explored the rich resources of the Library's extensive children's collection. We expect to see them in the garden soon with their preschool charges, introducing our smallest visitors to the wonders of the natural world!
