Garden Information

The Plant Collections Department maintains the database of collections, which contains over 81,000 records of plants and related information. The Gardens contain over 7,500 different kinds of plants in collections spanning 55 acres (22 hectares).

Access to plants (beyond normal visitation from paved paths) for sampling, vouchering, seed collection, commercial photography, scientific study, or other uses requires a access and use permit from the Plant Collections Department.

SFBGS and San Francisco Recreation and Park Department San Francisco Botanical Garden's beauty and value as a major cultural resource are the result of a successful public/private partnership between San Francisco Botanical Garden Society and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.
