THE DETAILS
|
The San Francisco Botanical Garden Nursery has for years specialized in uncommon and unusual plants. Many beautiful plants thrive in the frost-free fog belt of the Bay Area, but chain stores do not carry them because of limited marketability, or because of the difficulty to propagate on a mass scale. The Nursery is able to offer a large selection of rare cloud forest plants such as tree dahlias and tree senecios, drought resistant protea-family plants, and mite resistant fuchsias.
The Garden's Nursery also propagates a large selection of California natives and the annual Spring Plant Sale offers native plants at their seasonal peak. There are many reasons to use native plants--they are relatively easy to care for, many species are highly drought tolerant, their seeds and nectar sustain the native wildlife, and they bring a natural authentic beauty to California gardens. The 40th Annual Spring Plant Sale will feature 300 to 400 varieties of California natives including 40 different varieties of natives specific to San Francisco.
Other Plant Sale highlights include cactus and succulents, herbaceous perennials, vines, ferns, roses, rock garden plants, salvias, and rhododendrons, as well as a unique variety of Asian and Mediterranean shrubs.
All plants sold at the 40th Annual Spring Plant Sale are suitable for Bay Area gardens and most are propagated from San Francisco Botanical Garden¹s own collection. This is a unique opportunity to take home a piece of the Garden!
