Garden Celebrations

Dear Friends,

Lunar New Year Event
Lunar New Year Event

What better place than the Botanical Garden to celebrate the diversity that is San Francisco? We have plans to ratchet up our annual Lunar New Year celebration this coming year, reaching out to ever more families for this joyous occasion. The Garden has hosted the Lunar New Year event for 11 years, but we want to assure that it remains relevant and a service to not only the Asian communities but also to all of San Francisco.

On June 3 we co-hosted, with the California Academy of Sciences, a cocktail reception in the Zellerbach Garden of Perennials and dinner at the Academy for SwissAir executives and European press.

On June 17 and 27 the Garden hosted the Opening and Closing Night Parties for the 34th annual Frameline Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Film Festival. I have enclosed some photos of the County Fair Building all decked out for these celebrations. Hard to believe this is our beloved mid-century architectural masterpiece, isn't it?

There were upwards of 1,000 people each evening who danced, sipped cocktails and wine, and watched a fun series of old movie clips in the Auditorium. The closing ceremonies on the 27th included an awards presentation for the winners chosen from among the nearly 220 movies included in the Festival.

These are the latest in our series of planned outreach efforts to introduce locals and visitors from out of town to the Garden. And we're having fun doing it!

I hope to see you soon, and bring your friends!

Warm regards,

Michael
