Woods to Wildflowers
Take a Walk in the Redwoods this month without leaving the City! No need to venture far to see one of the most remarkable and unique plant communities in the world – our century-old Redwood Grove provides the perfect spot for tranquility and reflection.

Featured Plant

Featured Plant Look for the flowers of blueberry's less-famous cousin, the California huckleberry hidden under its leafy branches in the Redwood Grove this month. In fall, those flowers will transform into a culinary treasure with prized berries considered to have a more tart and intense flavor than blueberries.

The Shapes in the Redwood Grove
A Magical Evening in the Redwoods – More to Come!

Garden lovers enjoyed a truly magical evening Friday, May 18 in the Redwood Grove as the playful "beach-folk" harmonies of The Shapes entertained a sold-out audience. The evening started with tours of the redwoods by SFBG Gardener Tyler Taunton, delicious Filipino fare from the food truck, Naked Chorizo, and concluded with a beautiful, hour-long acoustic set.

This month, we'll host another after-hours event in the Redwood Grove on the summer solstice, June 21, with California wine and local cheeses. Enjoy some wine, cheese and learn more about the ecology of this unique plant community from SFBG naturalists stationed throughout the Grove.

   Volunteering
Helping Hands at the Annual Plant Sale

This year the Garden was fortunate to have three great groups volunteer to help with the Annual Plant Sale: Pearson Education, PG&E and Heart in Motion. The Pearson team of eight volunteers and PG&E's 14 pairs of helping hands provided great support in our set up effort, which takes four days. The team of 34 students from the community service group Heart in Motion helped with the public sale and clean up. These great team efforts were a huge help to our volunteer plant sale team, and made this mammoth job so much more manageable. Many thanks to these groups and all our amazing volunteers for helping us pull off the Bay Area's largest plant sale once again!

Garden Feast 2013
Thank you for Making Garden Feast a Resounding Success

Our 15th annual Garden Feast was our best yet, and we couldn't have done it without you! A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Richard Louv, whose advocacy to reconnect kids and nature means so much to our work. Together, your generosity helped us raise over $290,000 to support the Garden's Youth Education Program.
