From the CuratorAugust 11th Plant Sale Features Shade LoversOur August plant sale will be at the Plant Arbor near the front entrance and will feature shade plants. This is always a popular sale for City residents as most San Francisco gardens have an abundance of shade. This year we will have new selections of perennial impatiens. Many of these are evergreen shrubs that do not reseed and can bloom off and on all year. They are great new additions to frost-free shade gardens. We will also have 40 or more varieties of begonias for sale. Many of these have colorful evergreen foliage all year in our climate and most are not available in the general nursery trade. Besides these unusual offerings, we will have many ferns, shade shrubs from the cloud forest, hydrangeas, perennials such as Helleborus, Polygonatum, Thalictrum and Rhododendron, and mite-resistant species of Fuchsia for sale. Come visit our plant arbor sale on August 11 and peruse the wonderful selection produced by our dedicated volunteers. I'm sure you will find some hidden treasures for your gardens. Don Mahoney
