Celebrate California's Native Plants and Peoples

Saturday, April 5, 1–4pm
Enjoy the blazing colors of wildflowers in the Garden of CA Native Plants and see some fine examples of native crafts, baskets, and tule toys. Try your hand at grinding acorn flour and making tule twine and elderberry rattles. Take a mini tour with a Garden naturalist and stroll through purple irises, wild lilac, and a rainbow of wild flowers.

California Native Carnivorous Plant Terrarium Workshop

Saturday, April 26, 1–5pm
Create a miniature garden full of insect-eating plants perfect for your kitchen or outdoor patio. Use colorful sundews, Venus flytraps, and even California's own native killer, the cobra lily (Darlingtonia), to create a most ferocious terrarium.
$50 Members/$60 general.

California Wine in the Redwoods
California Wine in the Redwoods

Thursday, May 15, 6–8pm
Wander through the Garden's century-old Redwood Grove while nibbling on savory cheeses and sipping California wine. Discover trails lined with woodland sorrel, wild ginger, and sword ferns and find interpretation stations hidden among the maze of trails where Garden naturalists will reveal the ecological mysteries of these towering giants.
$20 Members/$30 general.

Traditional Native Californian Basket Making
Traditional Native Californian Basket Making

Saturday, May 17, 10am–2pm
Learn how to create a traditional Pomo Indian sandbar willow (Salix exigua) basket with expert basket weaver Charlie Kennard. Each participant will learn how to make a lightweight basket using several different weaves, suitable for gathering berries or holding small fruits.
