The forest is a rich mix of temperate
and tropical elements. Licuala palms, epiphytic orchids, and plants
in the spurge (Euphorbiaceae) and shrimp plant (Acanthaceae) families
have tropical origins, while maple, yew, aspidistra, and Paris are
typically temperate. Multiple sets of specimens are collected for herbaria
at the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Ecology and Bioresources,
and the Missouri Botanical Gardens. |
