At last we spy intact green forests. It is a great relief to see lush natural vegetation after the bare and exposed landscapes of the lowlands. Dr. Hiep learned of this location from a television documentary that showed villagers cuttings the forest for wood. He recognized one of the felled trees as Calocedrus, a rare endangered conifer previously unknown from this area. Apparently, no previous botanical exploration has taken place in this region.
