The heavy rains have resulted in numerous landslides that not only affect humans, but endanger the natural environment. As more forests are destroyed, the ability of the land to retain moisture and hold the soil is reduced, resulting in greater runoff and erosion. Even whole forests have slid downhill, leading to more erosion and loss of habitat.
