Despite the plight of biodiversity in this area, there is a gleam of hope. It appears the local people have realized that in order to maintain adequate groundwater supplies, the cloud forest must be left intact. Cloud forests "capture" moisture from the passing fog through condensation. The moisture drips into the mossy earth, replenishing water supplies. Intact cloud forests are therefore essential to ensure a reliable supply of water.
