I am pleasantly surprised to find Phyllocladus
(top), a primitive conifer with celery-like stems that function
as leaves. Similar species are found in Australia, New Zealand,
and New Guinea, hinting at the Gondwanan (Southern Hemisphere)
origin of the genus. Nearby, we find yew (Taxus), (bottom)
probably the same species I encountered in Vietnam.
This indicates a Laurasian (Northern Hemisphere) origin for
the genus.
