In 1999, I attempted my second climb up Gunung
(Mt.) Batu Karu (sometimes spelled Kau). On my first attempt 2 years
before, we did not have enough time to reach the summit due to a
late start. In typical cloud forest fashion, the upper parts of
the mountain are covered in mist and fog.
