Interns for Family and Children's Programs

 

Job Description

Interns' primary responsibility is to plan, prepare and conduct two of our summer programs. The "From Acorn to Oak" summer program serves children enrolled in day camps and similar programs during the week, providing them an opportunity to spend a day working, playing, and learning outdoors. Our "Bean Sprouts" summer program is a family drop-in program offered every Saturday all summer long. Both programs are centered around the Children's Garden, where children can plant, pick and eat a variety of garden crops. In addition, the senior interns work with and supervise high school interns who are also part of the program team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare and present hands-on gardening, environmental education, and nature craft activities for children ages 5-12 and families.
  • Maintain Children's Garden – water, weed, plant, etc.
  • Train and supervise high school interns, working with two other senior interns.
  • Assist with other children's programs as necessary

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in progress or recent BA in relevant field
  • Ability to work with a diverse urban population.
  • Previous experience working with children ages 5-12 in an outdoor setting.
  • Experience working as part of a group.
  • Gardening experience or other outdoor experience.

Work Schedule

May 27–August 9, 2014; Monday–Friday, 9:30am–3:30pm
Including: Saturday May 31, 11am–4pm
AND 5 of 10 Saturday dates: 11am–4pm
June: 7, 14, 21, 28; July: 5, 12, 19, 26; Aug: 2, 9

Salary

$15 per hour
