Opportunities

Nursery - Propagate and grow rare and unusual plants to be sold at our monthly public plant sales and at our Annual Spring Plant Sale.

Gardener's Assistant -
Work directly with our gardeners to help maintain our wonderful botanical garden. See immediate and visible results from your volunteer efforts.

Helen Crocker Russell Library
- Assist librarians at Northern California's premier horticultural library with collections maintenance, computer work, and public service.

San Francisco Botanical Garden Bookstore/Visitor's Center
- Greet visitors from all over the world. Sell a wide selection of books and merchandise, including one of the best offerings of horticulture-related books in the Bay Area.

Plant Collections Department
- Collect data on plants in the Garden and inventory plant collections. Create signage and assist with data entry.

Garden Greeters
- Welcome visitors to the Garden, direct them to areas of seasonal interest, and answer questions. An opportunity to meet visitors from all over the world.

Garden Guides (Docents) - These are the principal interpreters of the Garden to the public. Lead interpretive walks of the Garden for children and adults, revealing the hidden and not-so-hidden wonders of the Garden in the process. Special training required. Find our more about how to become a docent leading walks for children or adults.

Office Volunteer
- San Francisco Botanical Garden Society always has a need for volunteers with excellent office skills. Talented photographers and artists are also encouraged to volunteer.

Special Events -
If you can't contribute time on a regular basis, consider volunteering for special events, such as our Annual Plant Sale, GardenFeast, Earth Day, and other events.

Membership Ambassador - Sell San Francisco Botanical Garden Society memberships at special events. Assist with special campaigns (mailings and administration).

Children's Garden - Children's Garden Volunteer-help lead children's activities in the Children's Garden September through May, or help maintain the herb, butterfly, and vegetable plots. 

Nature Trail - Learn about bird and butterfly habitat creation and California native plants by helping to maintain the Garden's Nature Trail.

Education
& Special Projects - Work with San Francisco Botanical Garden Society staff to produce children's and adult education programs. Help with computer data entry, class registration, and classroom assistance.
