Over 600 members strong, the volunteer workforce at San Francisco Botanical Garden is energetic, fun and dedicated. There are lots of different opportunities ranging from helping in the nursery to leading elementary school groups on field trips.

Anyone wishing to become a part of the volunteer staff at the Garden is welcomed and encouraged to do so. Previous horticulture experience of any sort is a bonus, but is definitely not a requirement.

Volunteer at the Garden and join more than 600 San Francisco Botanical Garden Society volunteers who provide hundreds of hours of service each week, making the Garden's programs possible.

1000 Walks

Volunteers are an essential element of the programs here at the Botanical Garden – indeed, most of the Society's programs would not be possible were it not for the tens of thousands of volunteer hours we receive each year from our dedicated volunteer staff. Along those lines we would like to call attention to an extraordinary milestone reached by one of our docents.

Gordon Wilson celebrates his 1000th tour at SFBG.

Gordon Wilson, long-time children's walk and adult walk docent, led his 1000th tour on June 2nd.

Gordon has been doing tours for the past 17 years. Since 1993 he has led approximately 500 walks for visitors to the Garden, 400 walks for children and 100 special group tours. This is an average of almost 60 tours/year! During his 17 years as a volunteer Gordon has also assisted in the Bookstore, the Library, at our plant sales and for several years as an intern in the Garden. He has also been a staunch supporter of the Society's Children's Education program and Library for many years. Please join us in congratulating Gordon on this most impressive achievement. We thank him for revealing the wonders of the Garden to literally thousands of children and adults over the years – his most lasting gift of all.
